What is a Ganglion Cyst?

What is a Ganglion Cyst?

A ganglion cyst is a growth that occurs on a tendon, ligament, or muscle with a primary characteristic being the thick, jelly-like liquid produced in a soft sack on or around the affected component. On your feet, these cysts can appear in clusters on the top of the foot. Ganglion cysts often grow under thick skin and can be difficult to diagnose without the assistance of your trusted foot doctor.

When a ganglion cyst affects a foot nerve, it can cause a tingling sensation in your toes or other parts of the foot. Other times the cysts may not cause any problems. However, you should have bumps on your feet checked out by your podiatrist to rule out skin cancer.

Treatment for ganglion cysts may include the following:

Cysts that do not resolve or improve with the above treatments may require more aggressive surgery to properly treat.

If you suspect that you may have a ganglion cyst, see your foot doctor for an evaluation.
