Plantar Warts Can Be a Hidden Cause of Foot Pain

Warts are caused by a common virus called HPV (human papillomavirus) that is found in abundance in public areas like locker rooms, showers, pool areas, etc. A particularly painful type called a plantar wart grows on the bottom of the foot in the plantar fascia, which is the wide band of fibrous tissue that forms your arch.

These warts often grow hidden from view under thick, callused skin in the ball and heel area. The only visible sign is a small bump on the skin and pain and discomfort in the area when weight is applied to the foot.
