Issues with your feet can affect anyone, but women have specific sets of issues that they need to attend to. Now is a good time to go over two of the most common problems that affect women’s foot health and what you can do about them...
Believe it or not, one of the most common conditions contracted by children is warts, which often first show up on the feet and hands. Warts spread easily in locations with lots of children, such as in school locker rooms or pool areas. Since children’s immune systems are not fully developed, they are more susceptible to the virus that causes warts. Taking some proactive measures with your child can help prevent contact with the virus and avoid getting warts in the first place.
Prevention of warts on feet—Make sure your children’s feet are washed frequently, especially after being in public areas, because the human papillomavirus that causes warts is practically everywhere. Make sure the kids are wearing flip flops or shower shoes to minimize contact chances with this virus and other microscopic pathogens like fungi. Inspect your child’s feet regularly and, if you notice a wart forming, it is always best to treat it for removal early on before it has a chance to develop. Untreated warts on the bottom of the foot can progress to a painful ingrown plantar wart.
Treatment—If you spot what you think is a wart, let us confirm the diagnosis before trying any over the counter treatments. Early and aggressive removal treatments from your foot care specialist can take care of the problem. These methods include freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen, heat treatment to burn the wart away, and the use of prescription strength acid treatments.
