The condition of Haglund’s deformity is often referred to as the “pump bump” since it tends to affect individuals who frequently wear tight fitting high-heeled shoes. The bony protrusion forms near the Achilles tendon, often causing heel pain and sometimes leading to a complication called bursitis which can separate the tendon from the bone. Bursitis can also contribute to further calcification of the area, causing the bump to become larger and possibly more painful.
