Food Choices That May Boost Your Immune System

Food Choices That May Boost Your Immune System

Eating healthy is something we should all strive for, especially when you consider that eating the right foods may have the added benefit of boosting your immune system to help your body fight off infections from bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

Foods that may help to improve the functioning of your immune system and help ward off microbial infections include the following:

●     Consume healthy carbohydrates—skip the overly processed foods with excessive amounts of sugar and white flour and focus on eating healthy sources of carbs like sweet potatoes, bananas, pumpkins, wild and brown rice, and other whole grains.

●     Increase your antibodies with healthy proteins—Your antibodies are your body’s primary defense against microbial invaders and since they are largely composed of proteins, eating a diet rich in quality proteins is essential. Excellent sources of protein include fish, chicken, lean meats, lentils, beans, peas, and tree nuts, just to name a few.

●     Get enough micronutrients by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables—Your body needs micronutrients like manganese, copper, and vitamins B, A, and C to properly form antibodies. Fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with micronutrients.  Oranges and pineapples, in particular, are an excellent source of vitamin A. Eating a variety every day will help keep you healthy.
