Peripheral
Neuropathy is a condition seen often in the podiatry clinic. Many people
experience sensations in their feet like burning and tingling.; Some
people have described that they feel like they are walking in a
wet sock, but when they check, their socks are not wet. Some
also feel like they are walking around on suction cups. Nevertheless,
neuropathy is a serious condition that needs to be treated.
The five largest causes of neuropathy include: Diabetes, Alcoholism,
Nutritional Deficiencies, Guillain Barre Syndrome, and Thyroid
disorders. If you have any of these conditions, you are at
a much greater risk of developing peripheral neuropathy.
Peripheral neuropathy can get to the point to where the symptoms
are waking you up at night or stopping you from doing your normal
activity. The goal of treatment is to recognize these symptoms
early and stop them from getting to that point.
